The Risograph process. It's a classic! The methodology is a cross between Xerox, screen printing, and retro comic printing. Now, thanks to Retro Supply (No, I'm not being paid for the plug nor am I contracted by them to say anything) the "Riso" process can be replicated digitally with an amazing brush set of their offering.
Yes! This was done ENTIRELY with Risograph brushes (and a little offset tweaking). Check out the process... First, I figure out my colors. I went with the classic CMYK approach. Then I came up with the minimum number of color combos and place those colors according to the base color need (e.g., Red = Y & M; Green = Y & C; and so on). Next I assigned three layers: Yellow, Cyan, and Magenta, with each layer consisting of the Multiply blend.
I tweaked each color layer to slightly offset. Just like a janky Risograph printer would do!
And finally... some minor color correction and soft gradient overlay (soft as in the opacity was only like 10%)... aaaaaannnnddddd.... VIOLA! I mean... VOILA!!! A cool Risograph illustration done by hand in Photoshop.
